At Maternite Hospital, one of the most common things we hear a day or two after a cesarean is:
"Doctor, the cut is fine, but I feel weak all over. Jab uthti hoon, pet kheechta hai."

C-section is major surgery. Your body needs time to heal — not just the stitches, but also the muscles, uterus, and overall strength.
And while most moms get discharged in 3–4 days, the real recovery takes place at home.

So here’s a simple, no-fuss guide for c-section healing — the kind we share with every mom before she leaves our hospital.

First 1–2 Weeks: Rest is the Medicine

  • Move slowly. Don’t rush to sit cross-legged or sleep sideways.
  • Hold a small pillow over your stitches when you cough or sneeze. It eases the pain.
  • Wear loose clothes and high-waisted cotton underwear.
  • Don’t climb stairs or lift anything heavier than your baby.
  • If your doctor gives a painkiller, take it on time — don’t “brave it out.”

Our female physiotherapists in Jaipur often visit recovering mothers at Maternite to teach them how to sit, feed, and stand without straining the cut.

Caring for the Stitches

  • Keep the area dry. Wipe with a clean towel after a bath.
  • Avoid applying powders or ointments unless prescribed.
  • Don’t scrub the scar — just let warm water flow over it.
  • Watch for swelling, pus, bad smell, or fever — these need attention.

Stitches are usually dissolvable or removed in 7–10 days. Always attend your follow-up check.

Eat Well to Heal Well

Good food = good recovery.

  • Have ghee, dry fruits, dal, and soft sabzis.
  • Drink warm water and ajwain saunf water to reduce bloating.
  • Include iron (beetroot, jaggery), protein (eggs, paneer), and fiber (fruits, daliya).
  • Avoid cold drinks, maida, and very spicy food in the early weeks.

At Maternite, our nutritionist for women in Jaipur helps create local, healing diets that actually work — not bland or boring ones.

Start Moving – But Gently

After the first 2–3 days, start walking slowly inside your room.
Movement prevents clots and helps your uterus shrink faster.

No workouts, no yoga, no tummy tucks. That comes later — at least after 6–8 weeks, once your maternity doctor in Jaipur clears you.

What About Emotions?

It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, teary, or frustrated.
Many moms say: “Sab log baby dekhte hain, koi nahi poochta maa kaisi hai.”

If the blues don’t pass after 2 weeks, talk to your doctor.
You’re not weak. You’re recovering — and we’re here for that too.
