The baby is fed, clean, and calm… until it’s 2:30 AM — and suddenly wide awake.
Sound familiar?

At Maternite Hospital, one of the most common questions we hear from new parents is:
"Doctor, baccha raat mein sota hi nahi!"

Newborn sleep is unpredictable. It comes in short stretches, with frequent wake-ups. But there are gentle ways to make it easier — for your baby and for you.

Here’s what we tell every new mom and dad — simple sleep tips that work in real homes, not just parenting books.

1. Understand Newborn Sleep Cycles

  • In the first 2–3 months, babies don’t have a day-night rhythm.
  • They sleep in short bursts — 2 to 4 hours — around the clock.
  • That’s normal. Their tiny tummies need feeding every few hours.

Don’t expect a full night’s sleep in the beginning. Focus on helping your baby feel secure and gradually settle into a rhythm.

2. Keep Nights Quiet and Calm

During night feeds:

  • Use soft lights (or no lights)
  • Don’t talk or play too much
  • Change diapers gently and quietly

This teaches your baby: “Nighttime is for sleep.”

At Maternite, we guide new parents during discharge about sleep routines — it makes a big difference by week 6 or 7.

3. Let Baby Know Day vs. Night

During the day:

  • Open curtains
  • Talk, sing, and interact
  • Let baby nap in regular room noise/light

This contrast helps their body slowly understand the difference.

4. Feed Well, Then Sleep

A full tummy = better sleep.

  • Make sure baby is feeding well, burped properly, and not going to bed hungry.
  • If breastfeeding, let the baby finish one side fully before switching.
  • If formula feeding, check the feed amount with your pediatrician or child care doctor in Jaipur.

5. Safe & Comfortable Sleep Setup

  • Baby sleeps on their back
  • Use a flat surface — baby cot or firm mattress
  • No pillows, no heavy blankets
  • Room should be cool, quiet, and mosquito-free

Swaddling helps some babies feel snug and sleep longer, especially in the first 6–8 weeks. But not every baby likes it — and that’s okay.

You Need Sleep Too

Take turns with your partner. Nap during the day when possible. Even 30–40 minutes of quiet rest makes a difference.

Don’t wait for “perfect sleep” — grab what you can. And don’t hesitate to ask for help.

At Maternite, we don’t just care for the baby. We support the parents — especially when sleep becomes a struggle.
