“Doctor, lagta hai baby ka time aa gaya hai!”
This call comes to us at Maternite Hospital almost every other night — and many times, it’s a false alarm.

If you’re in your 9th month, every little pain feels like, “Yeh shayad labor pain hai.”
But labor has a way of making itself known — and once you know the signs, you won’t panic.

So, here’s a clear, no-nonsense guide to help you understand what labor really feels like, what’s normal, and when you should head to the hospital.

1. The “Show” – A Mucus Discharge

Your cervix has a mucus plug that protects your baby from infection. As your body prepares for delivery, that plug releases.
It looks like a thick, pinkish or brownish discharge — not bleeding, but not plain either.

If you see this around 37–39 weeks, it means labor could be a few days away.
No need to rush, but do inform your gynecologist in Jaipur.

2. Water Breaking – The Real Deal

This is when the fluid around your baby (amniotic fluid) starts leaking or gushes out.
It’s not always dramatic like in movies. Sometimes it’s just a slow trickle.

How to know it’s not urine? It’s usually colorless, odorless, and doesn’t stop when you try to hold it in.

If your water breaks — don’t wait. Even if there’s no pain, reach the hospital immediately.
At Maternite Hospital, we have emergency support and NICU care ready, in case the baby comes early.

3. Contractions – The Main Event

Now comes the most talked-about sign — labor pains.

But how do you know it’s not just a stomach cramp or backache?

True labor contractions:

  • Come at regular intervals (every 10, then 7, then 5 minutes)
  • Last about 30–60 seconds
  • Get stronger over time
  • Are felt in the lower back and move towards the front
  • Don’t go away if you change position

False contractions (Braxton Hicks):

  • Are irregular
  • Usually painless or mildly uncomfortable
  • Come and go
  • Often settle if you lie down or take deep breaths

If you’re getting regular, strong pains every 5–7 minutes — it’s time. Come in.

When Should You Go to the Hospital?

  • Your water has broken
  • You’re feeling regular, painful contractions
  • There’s bleeding like a period
  • Baby isn’t moving as much as before
  • You have high BP, dizziness, or severe headache
  • You’re just not feeling right — trust your gut

It’s always safer to come and get checked than to wait too long.

Why the Right Hospital Matters

When labor starts, you don’t want to explain your case from scratch or wait in line.
You want doctors who know your history, staff who calm you down, and facilities that are ready — even if the baby arrives at 2 AM.

That’s why so many mothers choose Maternite — not just for regular care, but because we’re a fully equipped NICU hospital in Jaipur and a reliable maternity doctor in Jaipur is available round the clock.
